6 Seasonal Events You Won’t Want To Miss

In some ways, we’ve had a rough year on the Carolina Coast. Through it all, we’ve pulled together as a community, helped one another, and come out stronger than ever. As a roofing contractor, we’re deeply connected to both the people and the businesses of Charleston and Myrtle Beach. It’s more important than ever to focus on our community and the amazing events the people we live with offer us, every day.

Charleston and Myrtle Beach don’t slow down in the fall. In fact, some of our favorite events take place in the last few months of the year. This fall especially, we’re grateful for the fun, community-oriented events we could attend.

We’ve put together a list of six events we’re looking forward to, but it doesn’t stop there. If you’re looking for more to do, you can always visit the City of Myrtle Beach’s events calendar and the Charleston CVB’s events calendar.

Trick or Treat Trail

What: Candy in the Corn Trick-or-Treat Trail

When: Every Saturday in October

Where: Thompson Farm & Nursery in Conway

Each Saturday until Halloween, Thompson Farm and Nursery provides a fun afternoon of activities for your family. Between 1 and 2pm, costumed kids and parents can join Pumpkin Princess as they pass out treats and navigate a corn maze designed just for children.

Surprise special guests, such as Mickey Mouse and the Chick-Fil-A cow are sure to delight kids, as well.

10 Acre Corn Maze

What: 10 Acre Corn Maze

When: Every Friday

Where: Thompson Farm & Nursery in Conway

Thompson Farm and Nursery builds an incredible new design for their signature corn maze every year. This year is no exception, and you can see the design here.

More than a corn maze, Thompson Farms offers plenty of events surrounding its fall centerpiece. There’s a tricycle track, a giant jump pad, duck races, mouse races, animal feedings, hay wagon rides, a tire playground, and much more. This year, they’re featuring a fireworks display and a drive-in movie night for kids, too.

You still have a few opportunities to visit the corn maze, and we highly suggest you do. We look forward to it every fall.

Owls in the Moonlight

What: Owls in the Moonlight

When: 11/5

Where: Center of Birds of Prey off Highway 17

This upscale educational event allows guests to spend an evening with owls. The Center of Birds of Prey is providing wine, beer, food, a reception, and the opportunity to watch majestic owls in their own nocturnal world.

If you attend, your visit provides support for the Center’s continuing educational, medical, and environmental research.

14th Annual Harvest Festival

What: 14th Annual Harvest Festival

When: 11/7

Where: Mullet Hall Equestrian Center in Johns Island

Each year, the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission keeps a Southern tradition alive with their annual harvest festival. This event features live bluegrass from the Southern Flavor Bluegrass Band, YeeHaw Junction, Blue Plantation, Flatt City, and Blue Stone Ramblers.

It also features plenty of kid-friendly activities, such as pumpkin decorating, lasso demonstrations, archery, and crafts. The crafter’s market also provides some great holiday shopping.

Oh, did we mention the food? Plenty of Carolina barbeque, kettle corn, and traditional festival foods. It’s the party tradition that puts November on the map.

Pumpkin Smash Day

What: Pumpkin Smash Day

When: 11/8

Where: Thompson Farm & Nursery in Conway

It’s a conundrum every year: what do you do with that carefully crafted jack o’lantern once Halloween is over? Fortunately, Thompson Farm and Nursery provides a fun solution.

This year, don’t throw your pumpkin out. Instead, bring it to the farm to smash it with other families. Thompson Farm will be smashing their leftover pumpkins, too– and they’ll also be dropping pumpkins from a crane four times that day. There’s also pumpkin bowling and many other farm activities to be found.

The Big Sweep

What: The Big Sweep 2

When: 11/14

Where: Downtown Myrtle Beach

Here’s your chance to give back to the community and have fun while doing it. The cleaning event and appreciation picnic begins at 8:30am. The Big Sweep aims to improve curb appeal and make a good first impression for people visiting Myrtle Beach. Volunteers will pick up litter, pull weeds, clean windows, and engage in some light painting.

The city is hoping to seriously improve several area parks and the Boardwalk area.
